Remove Retakes

Learn how to automatically detect and remove repeated takes from your video using Premiere Assistant.

Written by Nandita Kothari

Premiere Assistant scans your transcript for repeated lines and takes, using sentence accuracy, audio quality, and natural context flow to decide which version to keep. Weaker versions are marked for removal, and you can review each decision before applying to your Premiere sequence.

Note: Remove retakes requires transcription. Complete the Trim steps first before using this feature. See Clean up your video with Trim.

Remove retakes

  1. In [Trim], click the [Cut tools] dropdown and select [Remove retakes].

  2. A draft preview opens. Repeated sections are identified and suggested removals are highlighted in the transcript.

  3. Where multiple takes of the same line exist, click [Select best take] to review your options and choose which version to keep.

  4. Click [Save] to accept the draft, or [Discard] to cancel all suggested removals and start over.

  5. Click [Apply to sequence] to push the final edits to your Premiere timeline.

    • [Create new sequence]: saves changes to a new sequence while keeping your original untouched.

    • [Apply to original sequence]: updates your existing sequence with the changes.

Note:

  • Edits are not applied to your sequence until you click [Apply to sequence]. Any changes not applied will be lost.

  • Your captions will stay in sync when you apply to sequence. If you plan to continue working on captions, do not make any direct edits in the Premiere sequence afterward, as this can cause your captions to fall out of sync.
