Written by Nandita Kothari

Premiere Assistant can automatically remove the background from a video clip in one click.

Remove Video Background

  1. In Premiere Assistant, click [Background effect] from the panel menu. The Transparent background effects panel opens.

  2. In your Premiere sequence, select the video clip you want to remove the background from. Up to 10 seconds of video is supported.

  3. Click [Remove video background].

To remove the background from an image instead, see Edit Your Images Using AI Tools.

I get an error when using [Remove video background]

If you see an error when using [Remove video background], try these steps:

  1. Check your clip length. [Remove video background] only works on clips that are 10 seconds or shorter.

  2. Check for nested sequences. [Remove video background] does not work on nested sequences.

  3. Close all open bin and project panels in Premiere and try again.

  4. If the issue persists, reach out through the in-app chat in Premiere Assistant.
