Selects hands off to Adobe Premiere as a .prproj file, Premiere's own project format. It opens as a native project with your clips, tracks, cuts, and markers already in place, so there is no XML to parse and nothing to rebuild by hand.
Hand off to Premiere
Open the timeline you want to work from.
Open the handoff menu in the top right and choose [Adobe Premiere] under [Handoff to]. If you picked Premiere as your main editing tool, the button reads [Continue in] with the Premiere icon: click it to go straight to Premiere, or click the share icon next to it to open the menu.
Choose your settings in the Handoff to Premiere dialog, set where the file goes in [Save in], then click [Handoff].
Handoff runs in the background, so you can keep working. When Handoff is ready appears, click [Open folder] to find the .prproj file.
Open the .prproj file in Premiere.
Note: With more than one draft in the project, Selects asks which ones to hand off. All of them are selected to begin with, so handing off without changing anything takes every draft across. See Export your edit to editing software, or as a transcript or video.
Handoff settings
Three settings sit at the top of the dialog:
Premiere version: choose [2024], [2025], or [2026] to match the version you will open the file in.
Nest multi-cam: when this is on, your camera angles are nested into a single sequence. When it is off, each camera arrives on its own track so you can switch angles freely in Premiere.
Include captions: adds your transcript to the exported sequence as captions.
Click [More settings] for the rest:
Topic titles: choose [As markers], [As captions], or [Off].
Add gaps between topics: leaves a gap between each topic in the exported sequence.
Include muted audio tracks: brings your muted tracks across alongside the audible ones.
Keep all cut points: keeps every cut you made, including B-roll and standalone audio, instead of merging neighboring clips that came from the same source. On by default, and remembered between exports.
Selects remembers these settings, so your next handoff starts from whatever you chose last time. That includes Nest multi-cam, so it is worth checking before a multicam export rather than assuming it is off. The one exception is Add gaps between topics, which starts off every time.
What lands in your Premiere project
What lands in your Premiere project is a copy of what you already had in Selects. The Project panel mirrors your Selects project panel, so your folders keep the names and the structure you gave them. Selects does not rename or reorganize anything on the way out.
Alongside your own folders you will find three things:
Synced Timelines: the one folder Selects adds itself. It sits at the top of the project panel and holds every timeline you synced.
Your drafts, as sequences: every draft arrives as its own Premiere sequence, keeping the name it had in Selects.
A multicam sequence: included on every multicam handoff, even when Nest multi-cam is off, so you can switch angles in Premiere without handing off again.
Note: If you use Selects in a language other than English, the Synced Timelines folder still arrives in Premiere under its English name. Selects translates that folder label inside its own interface only.
FAQs
How do I keep my camera angles separate in Premiere?
Turn Nest multi-cam off before you hand off. Each camera then arrives on its own track, and you can switch between angles in Premiere as normal. With it on, all the angles are nested into one sequence instead.
Can I choose which drafts to hand off?
Yes. With more than one draft, [Select timelines to handoff] opens and you choose what goes across. Everything is selected to begin with, so clicking straight through hands off all of them, and you can clear anything you do not want. With a single draft there is nothing to choose and it goes straight across.
Can I use proxy files with Premiere?
Yes. Create proxies in Premiere, import only the proxy folder into Selects, then relink to your original camera files after you open the .prproj. See Using proxy files in Selects.
