When your edit is ready for color, sound, or final delivery, Selects hands it off as a native project file. Your cuts, structure, and labels come across, and your original media is never touched.
Open the handoff menu
The handoff button sits in the top right of the editor.
If you have set a main editing tool, the button reads [Continue in] with your tool's icon. Click it to hand off straight to that tool, or click the share icon beside it to open the full menu and pick a different one.
If you have not set one, the button reads [Handoff] and opens the menu directly.
The menu is headed [Handoff to] and lists [Adobe Premiere], [Final Cut Pro], and [DaVinci Resolve], followed by an [Export] section with [Video] and [Transcript]. [Audio] also shows when a draft has sound but nothing on screen, and saves a .wav file.
Note: With more than one draft in the project, Selects asks which ones to hand off. All of them are selected to begin with, so handing off without changing anything takes every draft across.
Handoff runs in the background, so you can keep working while it writes. Progress shows in the top bar, and you can cancel it from there. When the file is written, a Handoff is ready dialog appears. Click [Open folder] to reveal it in Finder or File Explorer.
Choose where files are saved
Every handoff and export dialog has a [Save in] row that sets where the file lands. It starts at your Desktop and remembers your last choice, so you are not picking a folder every time.
Choose your editing software
Each tool gets its own project file and its own handoff settings:

What transfers
Clip references point to your original files where they already live, so your editing software links to the real media and your originals are never modified.
Your edit points, track layout, and speaker labels come across. Topic titles arrive as markers or as captions, or not at all, depending on the settings you choose when you hand off.
Note: Audio level changes you make in Selects do not carry into the handoff. Clips arrive at their original levels, so redo any volume work in your editing software.
Export a transcript
You can pull the transcript out on its own, without handing off the whole project.
Open the timeline you want, either a stringout or any draft.
Open the handoff menu and choose [Transcript] under [Export].
If the project has more than one draft, choose the ones you want. The draft you have open is selected to begin with.
Pick a format: [Transcript text file] or [Caption SRT file].
For a text file, choose what to include: [Timecode], [Chapter title], [Speaker name]. You can tick any combination. [Speaker name] only shows when a draft has more than one speaker.
Click [Export].
Export a video
Selects can render a video straight out of the app, useful for review copies before you move to your editing software.
Open the handoff menu and choose [Video] under [Export].
Choose one or more drafts that you want to export.
Choose a resolution: [4K], [FHD], or [HD].
Choose a [Frame rate]. It defaults to your project's own rate, or pick 24, 25, 30, 50, or 60 fps.
Set where the file goes in [Save in].
Click [Export].
When the export starts, an [Exporting video] progress bar appears under the handoff button in the top right, over your video, for a few seconds. It then folds into the circular icon in the top bar, which shows progress until the export finishes. The handoff button stays available during an export, so the button alone does not tell you whether one is running.

Can I keep working while a handoff runs?
Yes, you can keep working while a handoff runs. It works in the background and reports progress in the top bar, where you can also cancel it.
How do I know if my export is still running?
To check whether your export is still running, look at the circular icon in the top bar. It shows progress until the export finishes. The [Exporting video] bar under the handoff button only shows for a few seconds when the export starts.
Do overlays transfer when I hand off?
No. Overlays are specific to Selects and are not included in the exported file.
Can I choose which drafts to hand off?
Yes. With more than one draft, [Select timelines to handoff] opens and you choose what goes across. Everything is selected to begin with, so clicking straight through hands off all of them, and you can clear anything you do not want. With a single draft there is nothing to choose and it goes straight across.
Does my audio mix come across?
No. Volume changes made in Selects are not applied to the handed-off project, so clips arrive at their original levels. Set your levels in your editing software.
