Premiere Assistant reviews your transcript and suggests segments that work well as standalone shortform content for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, or TikTok. Pick a segment, set your layout, and Premiere Assistant creates a dedicated new sequence ready to keep editing.
Note: Create shortform clips requires transcription. Complete the [Trim] steps first before using this feature. See Clean up your video with Trim.
Create shortform clips
In [Trim], click the [Cut tools] dropdown and select [Create shortform clips].
Premiere Assistant reviews your transcript and lists a few shortform clip options in the [Create shortform clips] panel on the right. Click a clip to preview it. [Show differences] is on by default, so you can compare the suggestion against your original footage.
When you find a clip you want to use, click [Select layout].
The Shortform layout panel opens. Adjust your settings:
[Shortform screen guide]: toggle on to show a visual guide over the preview.
[Layout]: choose [Fill], [Fit], or [Split].
[Scale] ([Fill] only): drag the slider to resize the video within the frame.
[Horizontal position] ([Fill] only): drag the slider to reposition the video horizontally.
[Background] ([Fit] only): fill the empty space with a solid [Color] or a [Blur] of your video.
[Split]: pick which video track goes in each area ([Top 1], [Bottom 1], and so on). [Split] needs at least two video tracks in your sequence.
Click [Create shortform sequence]. Premiere Assistant creates a new Premiere sequence with your shortform clip, adds animated captions to it, and opens it in [Edit captions] so you can keep editing with Premiere Assistant tools. If [Shortform screen guide] is on, the guide is also added to the sequence on its own video track.
