Find out where your cut editing tools moved to and what changed in the June 15th, 2026 Premiere Assistant (Cutback plugin) update.
The short version
The chat interface has been retired. Everything you did through chat now lives in the [Trim] tab. One feature, Shorten Video, has moved to Selects.
The update applied automatically. There is nothing you need to do.
Where your tools are now
Previously, cut tools lived inside the AI chat panel (the ✦ button in the top right corner). Clicking it opened a "Which parts do you want to cut?" menu where you selected a tool.
After the June 15th, 2026 update, the same tools are directly accessible in the [Trim] tab. Click [Cut tools] in the bottom left of the panel. The dropdown shows:
Remove retakes
Edit according to script
Remove silence
Remove filler words
Create shortform clips
These tools are still AI-powered. The difference is that instead of typing in a chat, you select the tool you need directly. No chat required, and they are faster to reach.
Note: The tab was previously called "Auto Rough cut." It is now called "Trim."
What happened to Shorten Video
Shorten Video has moved to Selects. Think of it as a graduation: Auto Rough Cut (Beta) has grown into its own app, built for the prep and rough cut stage.
In Selects, instead of choosing a preset, you prompt your own rough cuts and iterate drafts in seconds. Selects has already analyzed your footage, so it does not hand you a text outline. It pulls the exact clips and builds your timeline. It syncs multi-cam, breaks long footage into topics, and hands off a structured project file straight into Premiere.
Your free trial
If you are on a Basic or Pro plan, a free Selects Starter trial has been added to your account, available until July 31st, 2026. The Starter plan edits up to 10 hours of footage per month. Sign in with the same account you use for Premiere Assistant.
