When your edit is ready for color, sound, or final delivery, Selects hands it off as a native project file. Your cuts, structure, and labels come across, and your original media is never touched.
Open the handoff menu
The handoff button sits in the top right of the editor.
If you have set a main editing tool, the button reads [Continue in] with your tool's icon. Click it to hand off straight to that tool, or click the arrow beside it to pick a different one.
If you have not set one, the button reads [Handoff] and opens the menu directly.
The menu is headed [Handoff to] and lists [Adobe Premiere], [Final Cut Pro], and [DaVinci Resolve], followed by [Export Transcript] and [Export Video].
Note: Every draft in your project is handed off, not just the one you are looking at. You do not choose which ones to include.
When the file is written, a Handoff is ready dialog appears. Click [Open folder] to reveal it in Finder or File Explorer.
Choose your NLE
Each tool gets its own project file and its own handoff settings:
Adobe Premiere, a .prproj file. Learn more in Export to Adobe Premiere
Final Cut Pro, an .fcpxml file. Learn more in Export to Final Cut Pro
DaVinci Resolve, a .drp file. Learn more in Export to DaVinci Resolve
What transfers
Clip references point to your original files where they already live, so your NLE links to the real media and your originals are never modified.
Your edit points, track layout, and speaker labels come across. Topic titles arrive as markers or as captions, or not at all, depending on the settings you choose when you hand off.
Note: Audio level changes you make in Selects do not carry into the handoff. Clips arrive at their original levels, so redo any volume work in your NLE.
Export a transcript
You can pull the transcript out on its own, without handing off the whole project.
Open the timeline you want, either a stringout or any draft.
Open the handoff menu and choose [Export Transcript].
Pick a format: [Transcript text file] or [Caption SRT file].
For a text file, choose what to include: [Timecode], [Chapter title], [Speaker name]. You can tick any combination.
Click [Export].
Export a video
Selects can render a video straight out of the app, useful for review copies before you move to your NLE.
Open the timeline you want.
Open the handoff menu and choose [Export Video].
Choose [FHD] or [HD].
Click [Export].
FAQs
Do overlays transfer when I hand off?
No. Overlays are specific to Selects and are not included in the exported file.
Can I choose which drafts to hand off?
No. Every draft in the project is included automatically. If you only want one, hand off as normal and delete the sequences you do not need in your NLE.
Does my audio mix come across?
No. Volume changes made in Selects are not applied to the handed-off project, so clips arrive at their original levels. Set your levels in your NLE.
