Before, your media was fixed the moment you created a project. Now you can add more files whenever you want, and decide one by one which of them are worth analyzing.
Add files in prep
In prep, click the + button at the bottom left of the [Project] panel. It opens a short menu with two options:
[Import a synced timeline] to pull synced timelines out of an NLE project file. Learn more in Import a synced timeline from your NLE
[Add media files] to browse for video and audio files on your computer
You can also drag files straight into the [Project] panel from your computer.
Add files from the timeline
Once you are past prep and working in the timeline, open the project panel's more menu and choose [Add media].
Note: Adding media is not available in projects you created before this update. Those projects are fixed to the media they were created with.
Nothing is analyzed automatically
Files you add sit at rest until you say otherwise. Hover a file and an [Analyze] button appears, so you decide what is worth the credits.
This matters because an unanalyzed file can still be useful. You can place it on the timeline by hand and sort it into folders straight away, without spending anything.
While a file is analyzing, hovering it shows a cancel button instead. Stopping asks you to confirm, then puts the file back to where it was so you can analyze it again later.
Note: A clip that is part of a synced timeline cannot be analyzed on its own. The synced timeline holds the analysis for everything inside it.
What you need analysis for
An unanalyzed file has no transcript, no topics, and no speakers. Chat can move it into a folder, and that is all.
It will not:
Place it in a draft
Find it in a search
Count it or group it when working out an edit
If you want chat to do anything more than file it away, analyze it. You can do that at any point, including long after you added it.
Retry a file that failed
When any file fails to analyze, a [Re-analyze] button appears at the bottom of the project panel showing how many failed. Click it to run them all again. Selects shows the estimated credits and your remaining balance before it starts.
An analysis that fails costs you nothing. Re-analyzing is a fresh attempt, so it uses credits like any other analysis, and again you are only charged if it succeeds.
FAQs
Can I sync files I add after the project is created?
Not yet. Files added after a project is created stand on their own, so they cannot be synced together into a new timeline, and multicam is not an option for them. If you know you need multicam, add and sync those files before you analyze. Learn more in Sync your files.
Do I get charged twice if I analyze a file that was already analyzed?
No. Already-analyzed files are excluded from the estimate and are not charged again. The one exception is a synced timeline you have edited since analyzing it, which is charged when you re-analyze it.
Why can I not add media to my older project?
Adding media is not available in projects created before the update on 6th August, 2026, because those projects are built on the older structure. Create a new project if you need to bring in more footage.
Can I add media while analysis is running?
Analysis runs in the background, and you can leave the page while it works. Wait for it to finish before starting a new analysis on newly added files.
