The [Stock media] app searches stock videos and photos from Pexels and Pixabay without leaving Selects. Preview a result, then add it to your timeline in one click, or drag it right where you want it.
How to find and add stock media
To find and add stock media, open the Stock media app from the [Apps] tab and search.
Open the draft you want the clip added to.
In the project panel, click the [Apps] tab, then click [Stock media].
Choose [Video] or [Photo].
Type what you're looking for, such as "ocean at sunset". Results appear once you pause typing, after at least 2 characters.
Click a result to preview it large. The preview shows who made it and which site it's from, and a video plays with sound.
Click [Add to timeline].
Selects downloads the file, adds it to your project, and places it at the end of your draft's main track, wherever the playhead is. While it downloads, the app shows "Adding 1 file to the timeline…".
To see more results, click [View more] below them.
Note: If no draft is open when you click [Add to timeline], Selects creates a new draft with the clip.
Drag stock media onto the timeline or project panel
To place stock media exactly where you want it, drag a result out of the Stock media app.
Onto the timeline: The clip lands on the track and at the spot where you drop it.
Onto the project panel: The file is added to your project, but not to the timeline. Drop it on a folder to file it there.
Whichever way you add stock media, Selects doesn't ask whether to analyze it. Stock clips are B-roll to cut with, not footage your edit is built from.
Learn more about placing cutaways in Add B-roll and audio to your edit.
Where stock files are saved
Stock files are saved to your Downloads folder, or the folder set in [Save media to]. Selects downloads videos at up to 1080p and photos at full size. Each file name starts with the site and the creator's name, followed by "Selects stock" and a short code.
If you add the same result again, Selects reuses the file it already downloaded instead of downloading it twice.
Caution: Your project plays stock media from the saved file. If you move or delete that file, the clip goes offline.
Note: To choose where stock media is saved, open [Settings] from your profile avatar and change [Save media to] under [General]. It starts at [Downloads]. Switch to [Project source folder] to save next to each project's footage, or click [Choose folder…] to pick a folder of your own. If Selects can't save there, the file goes to your Downloads folder. This setting needs the latest version of the Selects app.
Pexels and Pixabay licenses
The Pexels and Pixabay licenses are linked inside the Stock media app. Before you search, the app shows "Search stock media from Pexels and Pixabay." Click Pexels or Pixabay in that line to open that site's license page.
Each preview also credits the creator and the site the result comes from.
FAQs
Which sites does Stock media search?
Stock media searches Pexels and Pixabay, for both videos and photos. It doesn't search Unsplash or other stock sites.
Where did my stock clip go?
Your stock clip goes to the end of your draft's main track when you click [Add to timeline], or to the spot where you dropped it on the timeline. If no draft was open, it's in a new draft. It's also in your project panel and in your Downloads folder, or the folder set in [Save media to].
Why didn't Selects ask to analyze my stock clip?
Selects doesn't ask to analyze stock media, because stock clips are B-roll you cut into your edit. This is the same whether you click [Add to timeline] or drag the result.
Why does Stock media say "This link has expired"?
Stock media shows "This link has expired. Search for it again." when a result's download link stopped working. This can happen when a result stays open in the app for a long time. Search for it again and add the fresh result. If you see "Couldn't add it to the timeline. Try again.", click [Add to timeline] again.
Why does Stock media say "Nothing found."?
Stock media shows "Nothing found." when Pexels and Pixabay have no results for your words. Try other words, or fewer of them. Also check that you're on the right tab, [Video] or [Photo].
Why does Stock media say "Couldn't search stock media"?
Stock media shows "Couldn't search stock media. Try again." when the search didn't go through. Check your internet connection, then change your search words to search again. If more results fail to load, the app shows "Couldn't load more. Try again." Click [View more] to try that page again.
