The [Generate video] app creates video with AI and drops the result straight onto your timeline. You can make a new shot from a prompt, change or extend a clip you already have, reframe it for vertical, or upscale it. Generating uses Selects credits, and the cost shows before you start.
What's in the Generate video app
The Generate video app has four tabs.
Tab | Use it to |
[Explore] | Browse example videos and reuse their prompts |
[Create] | Make a new video from a prompt, with optional image, video, and audio references |
[Edit] | Change a clip you already have: [Edit video], [Extend video], [Reframe], or [Upscale] |
[Copy motion] | Move the motion from one video onto a character from your image |
How to generate a video
To generate a video, open a draft, then fill in the [Create] tab.
Open the draft you want the video added to.
In the project panel, click the [Apps] tab, then click [Generate video].
Click the [Create] tab.
Choose a [Model]. The list starts with Higgsfield Genjutsu, which restyles a clip you already have. To make a video from a prompt alone, pick Seedance 2.5 or Seedance 2.0 Fast.
Optional: under [Add references], click the + to add images, video, or audio. Choose [Add selected clip], [Add current frame], or [Add file], or pick from your project's files.
Write your prompt. Type @ to point at a reference, for example "@Image1 walks through the rain".
Set [Duration], [Aspect], [Resolution], [Bitrate], and [Audio].
Check the credit cost above the button, then click [Generate].
Note: Higgsfield Genjutsu works differently from the other models. It needs a clip of 4 to 30 seconds and 1 to 7 images, and it restyles the clip while keeping its motion.
The video generates in the background, so you can keep editing. Progress shows in the top bar. When it's done, Selects does three things:
Saves the video file to your computer's Downloads folder
Adds it to your project
Places it in your draft above your other video, at the spot where the playhead was when you clicked [Generate]
Caution: Your project reads the generated video from the file in your Downloads folder. If you move or delete that file, the clip goes offline.
Start from an example
To start from an example, open the [Explore] tab, find a video you like, and click [Recreate]. Selects fills in the prompt, model, and settings for you. Add your own images if the example needs them, then click [Generate]. Nothing is generated, and no credits are used, until you do.
Edit a clip you already have
To change an existing clip, click the [Edit] tab and choose a tool. Each one needs a clip from your timeline or project.
[Edit video]: Describe a change, like "make it snow", and keep the clip's motion. Clips from about 2 to 30 seconds.
[Extend video]: Describe what happens next and add more footage to the end. Clips from about 2 to 30 seconds.
[Reframe]: Change the shape of a clip, for example from 16:9 to 9:16, and fill in the new edges. Clips up to 60 seconds.
[Upscale]: Raise the resolution of a clip, up to 4K depending on the model.
Copy motion from one video to a character
To copy motion, click the [Copy motion] tab and add two things: the video with the motion you want (3 to 30 seconds), and an image of your character that shows their face and body. Turn [Keep original sound] on or off, then click [Generate].
How credits work
The credit cost shows just above [Generate]. It reads as a number of credits, or as "Approx." when the price depends on the result's length or resolution. Some models show no cost in advance.
Selects holds the credits when you click [Generate], and settles the final amount when the video is done. The amount charged shows on the result in your history.
If you don't have enough credits, click [Get credits] to open your plan page. When a cost shows, [Generate] stays unavailable until you have enough.
Find, retry, or cancel a generation
To see past generations, click [Recent generations] under the form. The list covers every video generated in this project, on this computer.
[Cancel]: Asks to stop a generation that is still preparing or generating. With some models, cancel only works before generation starts. After that, it finishes and is charged.
[Try again]: Fills the form with that generation's prompt and settings. It doesn't start until you click [Generate].
[Retry import]: Downloads the result again if it generated but didn't reach your project. It doesn't charge again.
[Copy prompt]: Copies the prompt to reuse.
Start from chat or the Home screen
You can also start from a chat box. Click the + in the chat box, choose [Generate video], describe the video, and send. Selects opens the Generate video app with your prompt filled in. It doesn't generate until you review it and click [Generate].
FAQs
Where did my generated video go?
Your generated video is in three places: on your draft's timeline at the spot where the playhead was when you clicked [Generate], in your project panel, and in your computer's Downloads folder.
Can I close Selects while a video is generating?
You can close Selects while a video is generating. The generation keeps running, and Selects downloads the result and adds it to your project the next time you open it. A generation that is still preparing needs Selects open until it starts.
Why is the Generate button unavailable?
The [Generate] button is unavailable when something required is missing, such as the prompt or a clip, when a clip is too long or too short for the model, or when you don't have enough credits. A credit shortfall shows just above the button, and a clip that's too long or too short is flagged on the clip itself. A missing prompt or clip isn't called out, so check the form.
Why does Generate say "Select a timeline to work on"?
Generate shows "Select a timeline to work on" when no draft is open. Open a draft so Selects knows where to place the result, then click [Generate] again.
Why was my prompt rejected?
A prompt is rejected when the AI model's provider finds that the prompt or a reference breaks its content policy. Revise your prompt or references and try again.
How long can a generated video be?
A generated video can be up to 30 seconds with Seedance 2.5, and up to 15 seconds with Seedance 2.0 Fast. To go longer, use [Extend video] on the result.
