AI audio in Selects: text to speech, music, voice change, and translation

Learn how to turn a script into a voice, make music, change the voice in a clip, or translate speech with the AI audio app.

Written by Nandita Kothari

The [AI audio] app does four things with AI: reads a script aloud, makes music, replaces the voice in a clip, and translates speech into another language. Results land on your timeline. Generating uses Selects credits.

What's in the AI audio app

The AI audio app has four tabs.

The AI audio app with a box around its four tabs: Text to speech (open), Music, Voice change, and Translate. Below are Model, Script, and Voice.

Tab

Use it to

[Text to speech]

Turn a script into a voice

[Music]

Make songs and background music from a description

[Voice change]

Replace the voice in a clip and keep the delivery

[Translate]

Translate and re-voice the speech in a clip

Turn a script into a voice

To turn a script into a voice, use the [Text to speech] tab.

  1. Open the draft you want the audio added to.

  2. In the project panel, click the [Apps] tab, then click [AI audio].

The Apps tab in the project panel. Step 1 marks the Apps tab and step 2 marks the AI audio app in the grid.
  3. Choose a [Model].

  4. Write exactly what the voice should say under [Script].

  5. Choose a [Voice]. With ElevenLabs voices, click the play button to hear a sample first.

  6. Optional: set [Takes] from 1 to 4 to get several reads of the same script.

  7. Click [Generate].

The voice speaks the language your script is written in. There's no language picker. Seed Audio 1.0 has a [Multilingual] switch under [Advanced settings].

Note: Each take is its own generation and is charged separately.

These are the models Selects suggests, and they show first in the list. To try others from our AI provider, open [Model] and type in [Search models].

Tip: To match a real voice, choose Seed Audio 1.0 and add up to 3 clips of that voice under [Add references], each up to 30 seconds. The reference replaces the preset voice.

Make music

To make music, use the [Music] tab. Describe the music you want, and Selects makes it for you.

The AI audio app with a box around the Music tab. The form shows Model set to ElevenLabs Music v2.5, a Prompt box, Duration at 30 seconds, the Instrumental only switch turned on, and the Generate button.
  1. Open the draft you want the music added to.

  2. In the [AI audio] app, click the [Music] tab.

  3. Under [Prompt], describe the music: its mood, genre, instruments, and tempo.

  4. Set [Duration], from 3 seconds to 10 minutes. It starts at 30 seconds.

  5. Leave [Instrumental only] on for music without vocals, or turn it off to allow singing.

  6. Click [Generate].

Change the voice in a clip

To change the voice in a clip, click the [Voice change] tab. Add your clip under [Your clip], pick a [Voice], and click [Generate]. The new voice keeps the original timing and delivery. Turn on [Remove background noise] to clean up the recording at the same time.

The clip can be audio, or the sound of a video clip, up to 5 minutes long.

Translate the speech in a clip

To translate speech, click the [Translate] tab. Add your clip under [Your clip], choose the [Language] to translate into, and click [Generate]. Selects translates the speech and re-voices it. The clip can be up to 5 minutes long, and there are 29 languages to choose from.

Where your audio lands

Audio generates in the background. When it's done, Selects saves it to your Downloads folder, or the folder set in [Save media to], adds it to your project, and places it below your other audio, at the spot where the playhead was when you clicked [Generate].

Caution: Your project reads the audio from the saved file. If you move or delete that file, the clip goes offline.

Note: To choose where generated media is saved, open [Settings] from your profile avatar and change [Save media to] under [General]. It starts at [Downloads]. Switch to [Project source folder] to save next to each project's footage, or click [Choose folder…] to pick a folder of your own. If Selects can't save there, the file goes to your Downloads folder. This setting needs the latest version of the Selects app.

Two screens side by side, joined by an arrow. Left: the profile menu, with step 1 on the profile avatar and step 2 on Settings. Right: Settings, with step 3 on General and step 4 on the Save media to menu, set to Downloads. Account details are hidden.

How credits work

When the model can be priced in advance, the credit cost shows just above [Generate]. If no estimate shows, the credits charged appear under [Recent] once it's done. Click the result to see them. If you don't have enough credits, click [Get credits] to open your plan page.

Your last 3 audio generations in this project show under [Recent] in every tab, with [Try again].

FAQs

Can Selects generate music or sound effects?

Selects can generate music in the [Music] tab of the [AI audio] app. For sound effects, open [Model] in the [Music] tab and search for a sound effects model from our AI provider. For ready-made sound effects, open the [Effects] app and click the [Sounds] tab.

Can I clone my own voice?

You can clone yourself in the [Avatars] app. [Clone yourself] saves your look and voice as an avatar from a 15 to 60 second video of you talking to the camera, and you can reuse it in any project on this computer. That cloned voice works inside the Avatars app only. To get a voice like yours in [AI audio], choose the Seed Audio 1.0 model in [Text to speech] and add up to 3 clips of your voice as references. Selects matches that voice for the script you write.

What languages can I translate speech into?

You can translate speech into 29 languages, including English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Hindi, and Arabic. Choose one under [Language] in the [Translate] tab.

Where did my generated audio go?

Your generated audio is on your draft's timeline, below your other audio, at the spot where the playhead was when you clicked [Generate]. It's also in your project panel and in your Downloads folder, or the folder set in [Save media to].
