The [AI video] app creates video with AI and drops the result straight onto your timeline. You can make a new shot from a prompt, change or extend a clip you already have, reframe it for vertical, or upscale it. Generating uses Selects credits, and the cost shows before you start.
What's in the AI video app
The AI video app has four tabs.
Tab | Use it to |
[Explore] | Browse example videos and reuse their prompts |
[Create] | Make a new video from a prompt, with optional image, video, and audio references |
[Edit] | Change a clip you already have: [Edit video], [Extend video], [Reframe], or [Upscale] |
[Copy motion] | Move the motion from one video onto a character from your image |
How to generate a video
To generate a video, open a draft, then fill in the [Create] tab.
Open the draft you want the video added to.
In the project panel, click the [Apps] tab, then click [AI video].
Click the [Create] tab.
Choose a [Model]. To make a video from a prompt alone, pick Seedance 2.5 or Seedance 2.0 Fast. If your list also shows Higgsfield Genjutsu, that model restyles a clip you already have. To find more models from our AI provider, type in [Search models].
Optional: under [Add references], click the + to add images, video, or audio. Choose [Add selected clip], [Add current frame], [Add selected audio], or [Add file], or pick from your project's files.
Write your prompt. Type @ to point at a reference, for example "@Image1 walks through the rain".
Set the options the model shows, such as [Duration], [Aspect], [Resolution], and [Audio].
Check the credit cost above the button, then click [Generate].
Note: If your list shows Higgsfield Genjutsu, it works differently from the other models. It needs a clip of 4 to 30 seconds and 1 to 7 images, and it restyles the clip while keeping its motion.
The video generates in the background, so you can keep editing. Progress shows in the top bar. When it's done, Selects does three things:
Saves the video file to your Downloads folder, or the folder set in [Save media to]
Adds it to your project
Places it in your draft above your other video, at the spot where the playhead was when you clicked [Generate]
Caution: Your project reads the generated video from the saved file. If you move or delete that file, the clip goes offline.
Note: To choose where generated media is saved, open [Settings] from your profile avatar and change [Save media to] under [General]. It starts at [Downloads]. Switch to [Project source folder] to save next to each project's footage, or click [Choose folder…] to pick a folder of your own. If Selects can't save there, the file goes to your Downloads folder. This setting needs the latest version of the Selects app.
Start from an example
To start from an example, open the [Explore] tab, find a video you like, and click [Recreate], or click the video itself. To see it large first, hover it and click the icon at its top right. Selects fills in the prompt, model, and settings for you. If the example starts from a video, its sample video is added to your project too. Add your own images if the example needs them, then click [Generate]. Nothing is generated, and no credits are used, until you do.
Edit a clip you already have
To change an existing clip, click the [Edit] tab and choose a tool. Each one needs a clip from your timeline or project.
[Edit video]: Describe a change, like "make it snow", and keep the clip's motion. Clips up to 30 seconds. The shortest clip it takes is 2 seconds, or 4 seconds on some accounts.
[Extend video]: Describe what happens next and add more footage to the end. Clips from about 2 to 30 seconds.
[Reframe]: Change the shape of a clip, for example from 16:9 to 9:16, and fill in the new edges. Clips up to 60 seconds.
[Upscale]: Raise the resolution of a clip, up to 4K depending on the model.
Copy motion from one video to a character
To copy motion, click the [Copy motion] tab and add two things: the video with the motion you want (3 to 30 seconds), and an image of your character that shows their face and body. Turn [Keep original sound] on or off, then click [Generate].
How credits work
The credit cost shows just above [Generate]. It reads as a number of credits, or as "Approx." when the price depends on the result's length or resolution. Some models show no cost in advance.
Selects holds the credits when you click [Generate], and settles the final amount when the video is done. The amount charged shows on the result in your history.
If you don't have enough credits, click [Get credits] to open your plan page. When a cost shows, [Generate] stays unavailable until you have enough.
Find, retry, or cancel a generation
To see past generations, click [Recent generations] under the form. The list opens in the [Explore] tab and covers every video generated in this project, on this computer. Click a generation to see its actions.
[Cancel]: Asks to stop a generation that is still preparing or generating. With some models, cancel only works before generation starts. After that, it finishes and is charged.
[Try again]: Fills the form with that generation's prompt and settings. It doesn't start until you click [Generate].
[Retry import]: Downloads the result again if it generated but didn't reach your project. It doesn't charge again.
[Copy prompt]: Copies the prompt to reuse.
Start from chat or the Home screen
You can also ask for a video from the chat box, in a project or on the Home screen. Click the + in the chat box, choose [AI video], describe the video, and send. While it's on, an [AI video] badge sits beside the +, and the chat makes the video with AI video generation. From the Home screen, sending starts a new project.
Before the chat spends credits, it asks you on a card, such as Generate video?, with the credit cost. Click the line on the card to check its model and prompt, change them if you need to, then click [Generate]. When one request needs several generations, they come on one card with their total cost, so you review and approve them together. Changing the model or prompt on the card needs the latest version of the Selects app. If the chat's [Permissions] is set to [Bypass], it doesn't ask first.
FAQs
Where did my generated video go?
Your generated video is in three places: on your draft's timeline at the spot where the playhead was when you clicked [Generate], in your project panel, and in your Downloads folder, or the folder set in [Save media to].
Can I close Selects while a video is generating?
You can close Selects while a video is generating. The generation keeps running, and Selects downloads the result and adds it to your project the next time you open it. A generation that is still preparing needs Selects open until it starts.
Why is the Generate button unavailable?
The [Generate] button is unavailable when something required is missing, such as the prompt or a clip, when a clip is too long or too short for the model, or when you don't have enough credits. A credit shortfall shows just above the button, and a clip that's too long or too short is flagged on the clip or under its box. A missing prompt or clip isn't called out, so check the form.
Why does Selects say "Select a timeline to work on"?
Selects shows "Select a timeline to work on" when your project has drafts but none is open, for example while a synced timeline is on screen. Generated results always go on a draft. A synced timeline is where your original footage is lined up, and you don't edit on it, so Selects doesn't place results there. Open a draft so Selects knows where to place the result, then click [Generate] again. In a project with no draft yet, Selects creates a first draft for you and places the result there.
Why was my prompt rejected?
A prompt is rejected when the AI model's provider finds that the prompt or a reference breaks its content policy. Revise your prompt or references and try again.
How long can a generated video be?
A generated video can be up to 30 seconds with Seedance 2.5, and up to 15 seconds with Seedance 2.0 Fast. To go longer, use [Extend video] on the result.
