Inside a project, click the Settings icon in the top menu to open the workspace settings dropdown. For app-wide settings like language and appearance, use [Settings], which you open from your profile icon on the homepage. See Settings below.
When you are signed in, the top of the dropdown shows how much of your credits you have used, as a percentage and as credits used out of your total. Hover over it to see your usage and open your plans.
Timeline
Timeline settings control what shows on the draft timeline while you cut.
[Mark bad shots in source]: When enabled, the shaky and out of focus stretches Selects has found are marked on the source strip. See Find shaky and blurry shots.
[Click anywhere to move playhead]: When enabled, clicking an empty part of the timeline moves the playhead there. When disabled, clicking empty space only clears your clip selection and the playhead stays where it is. This is on by default if you use the Final Cut Pro shortcut preset, and off otherwise.
[Show topics]: When enabled, topic titles show in a strip above the timeline tracks, and clicking a title moves the playhead to where that topic starts. It is on by default.
[Show subtopics]: When enabled, subtopics show under the topics, which makes the structure of a long topic easier to see while you cut. It is off by default.
Transcript
Transcript settings control how the transcript panel displays content during editing.
[Show cuts (grayed out)]: When enabled, cut sections remain visible in the transcript as grayed-out text. When disabled, cut sections are hidden entirely. Keeping them visible is useful when you want to restore previously cut content. Hiding them gives you a cleaner reading experience.
[Show silence frame length]: When enabled, silent gaps in the transcript display the exact number of frames. When disabled, silent gaps show as "⋯" instead. Frame counts are useful when you need precise timing information during cleanup.
[Right-to-left transcript]: When enabled, the transcript panel reads from right to left, which is useful for footage spoken in Arabic, Hebrew, Urdu, or Persian. It is off by default and does not change with the interface language.
Main editing tool
Your main editing tool is the app Selects hands your edit off to in one click. To choose it, right-click [Export] in the top right and pick [Adobe Premiere], [Final Cut Pro], or [DaVinci Resolve] under [Main editing tool]. Its icon then sits beside [Export]. Choose [Hide] to remove the icon.
Choosing a main editing tool also switches your keyboard shortcuts to that tool's preset. Picking an editing tool's preset in the keyboard view sets it as your main editing tool too.
Keyboard shortcuts
Click [Keyboard shortcuts] to open the keyboard view, where you can see every shortcut on a full keyboard, switch between the Selects, Premiere, Final Cut Pro, and DaVinci Resolve presets, change any single shortcut, or import your shortcuts from another editor.

Guide
Click [Guide] to launch the in-app interactive walkthrough and get familiar with the Selects workspace.
Feedback
Click [Feedback] to open the support chat. From here, you can send feedback, report bugs, ask questions, and browse help center articles.
Homepage account settings
Note: Click your profile icon (your profile photo or initial) in the top right to open the account settings dropdown. The account menu is only available on the Selects homepage. If you are in a project, click the home icon in the top left to return to the homepage first, then click your profile icon.
Credits and plans
Below your email, the dropdown shows how much of your credits you have used, as a percentage and as credits used out of your total, and how many hours of media your remaining credits can analyze. Click [See plans] to open the dashboard, where you can purchase or upgrade a plan, buy more credits, check your credit usage, and download invoices. Click [Earn credits] to see ways to get free credits. If your plan allows top-ups, a [Top up] button also appears.
Learn more in Selects app: plans and pricing.
Connect MCP
Click [Connect MCP] to connect Selects to your AI agent (like Claude) using the Selects MCP. This lets you edit footage directly through a chat-based AI interface without switching tools.
Learn more in Connect Selects to your AI agent with the Selects MCP.
Language
Click [Language] to change the Selects interface language. Choose your preferred language from the dropdown, then click [Save changes].
Currently, Selects is available in 10 languages: English, Español, Português, 한국어, 日本語, 中文(简体), Français, Italiano, Deutsch, and Türkçe.
The interface updates immediately. No restart needed.
Learn more
Click [Learn more] to open the Selects Help Center in your browser. It opens the full guide collection, not a single article, so it is the fastest way in when you are not sure which guide you need.
Logout
Click [Logout] to sign out and switch accounts.
Projects in Selects are saved to your machine, not your account. If you log out and sign in with a different account on the same computer, your existing projects will still be there.
Note: Free credits for new users are also linked to your machine. If this computer has already claimed them, a new account will not get them again.
Settings
Settings keeps your app-wide preferences, account, usage, and connections in one place. To open it, click your profile icon on the homepage and choose [Settings]. On a Mac, you can also press Command + comma (⌘,) anywhere in Selects.
Pages are listed on the left. To find a setting quickly, type its name, like language, into the search box above them.
General
The [General] page holds your account and app preferences.
[Account]: Shows the email you are signed in with. Click [Logout] to sign out.
[Language]: Choose the interface language. The change applies right away.
[Appearance]: Switch Selects between [Light] and [Dark].
[Key color]: Pick the accent color used across Selects.
[Keyboard shortcuts]: Shows the shortcut preset you are using. Click [Customize] to open the keyboard view.
[Keep this computer awake]: When enabled, your computer does not go to sleep while tasks like analysis, exports, and handoffs are running. The display can still turn off, and closing a laptop lid still puts it to sleep. It is on by default, and we recommend leaving it on.
[Notifications]: Shows whether Selects is allowed to send you notifications. Click [Open settings] to change this in your computer's settings.
[Save media to]: Choose where Selects saves media it creates or downloads for a project, such as generated media and stock videos. Pick [Downloads], [Project source folder] to save next to each project's source files, or [Choose folder…] to pick your own. If you see a message asking you to update, update Selects to the latest version to use this.
Usage
The [Usage] page shows how much of your credits you have used, as a percentage and as credits used out of your total, and how many hours of media your remaining credits can analyze. If your plan is measured in hours, it shows the hours of raw video analyzed instead. Click [Manage plan] to open your plan on the dashboard, or [Earn credits] to see ways to get free credits. If your plan allows top-ups, a [Top up] button also appears.
Media cache
The [Media cache] page shows the media data Selects saves on your computer for faster loading, like prepared audio and waveforms. Clear it to free up storage space. Each project with cached data is listed with its size, largest first.
To clear the media cache:
Tick the checkbox next to each project you want to clear. To select every project, tick the checkbox at the top of the list.
Check how many projects you selected and their total size at the bottom of the page, then click [Clear cache].
The confirmation shows how much data will be cleared. Click [Clear cache] again to confirm.
Clearing the media cache keeps your projects, transcripts, and original media. Selects rebuilds this data from your original media when it is needed, so keep that media connected.
Projects in use cannot be selected. The reason shows under the project name, for example when the project is open or a sync or analysis is running. If the project is open, go back to the project list to clear it. The list updates on its own when the task finishes.
Projects Selects cannot read are grouped in one row, [Projects that couldn't be read]. You can still select and clear it.
Not enough storage space: Selects needs at least 10 GB of free space to prepare a project. If it runs short, click [Open media cache] in the message to come straight to this page.
If you see a message asking you to update, update Selects to the latest version to manage the media cache.
System
The [System] page covers what chat can do on your computer.
[Browser use]: Settings for the browser chat uses when it looks things up for you. Choose its [Search engine], change its [Downloads folder], or clear its [Browsing history] or [Cookies and site data]. Clearing cookies and site data signs it out of every site.
[Selects use]: Chat can click and type in Selects to do what you ask. Press Esc at any time to stop it.
Connectors
The [Connectors] page connects Selects to tools outside it.
[MCP server]: Click [Connect] next to [Use Selects from other apps] to let Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, or OpenClaw edit in Selects through the Selects MCP. Learn more in Connect Selects to your AI agent with the Selects MCP.
[Use your subscription in Selects]: Connect your own [Claude] or [ChatGPT] subscription so chat runs on it instead of Selects credits. Click [Connect] to sign in, or [Disconnect] to stop using it. Learn more in Which AI setup should you use in Selects?
FAQs
Can I move a Selects project to a different computer?
Selects saves your projects to the machine you're working on, not to your account, so a project you started on one computer will not show up when you log in on another. Copying the project folder over does not work either. Projects are not designed to move between devices that way.
If you want to keep working on a different computer, export your progress to your main editing tool (Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve), then move the original video files and that project file to the other computer. Selects does not have a dedicated project export feature yet, but it is on the roadmap.
Note: Using Selects on more than one device will not charge you twice. Your plan and credits are tied to your Cutback account, not a specific device.
