Editor Settings and Preferences

Configure handoff format, transcript display options (show cuts, silence frames), and keyboard shortcuts for the Selects editor workspace.

This article covers the configuration options available in the Selects workspace: keyboard shortcuts for efficient editing, handoff settings for NLE export, and transcript display preferences.

Keyboard shortcuts

Selects supports keyboard shortcuts that match popular NLE conventions. Three shortcut presets are available: Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and DaVinci Resolve. Choose the preset that matches your primary editing software so muscle memory carries over.

To change your preset, open Keyboard shortcuts from the top bar. You can view the full shortcut reference here and switch between presets at any time.

Common shortcuts include: play/pause, mark in/out, cut at playhead, select next/previous clip, zoom timeline, and add marker (M).

Handoff settings for Premiere

Configure Handoff settings from the top bar before exporting to your NLE.

Multicam export format: When exporting a multicam project, choose between two layouts:

  • Nested sequence: Camera angles are nested into a single multicam clip. This is the standard Premiere Pro multicam workflow.

  • Stacked tracks: Camera tracks are laid out vertically as separate tracks in the sequence. Use this if you prefer to see all angles at once and switch manually.

Topics and captions: Choose whether to include topic markers and caption data in the exported project. Enable these if you want the structure Selects built to carry over into your NLE.

Getting these right before your first export saves time. Once configured, your preferences persist across projects.

Transcript settings

Transcript settings control how the transcript panel displays content during editing. Access these from the settings menu.

Show cuts (grayed out): When enabled, cut sections remain visible in the transcript as grayed-out text. When disabled, cut sections are hidden entirely. Keeping them visible is useful when you want to restore previously cut content. Hiding them gives you a cleaner reading experience.

Show silence frame length: When enabled, silent gaps in the transcript display the exact number of frames. When disabled, silent gaps show as "..." instead. Frame counts are useful when you need precise timing information during cleanup.
